Imagine the technology humans used years ago and how it changed their way of life, but little did they know what was next to come in the future. Technology has advanced dramatically and rapidly becoming a permanent part of society.  So many different technologies have formed together to create bigger and more advanced technology, including robots. Robots have created a new era all over the world that have prevented harm to humans as well as being high skilled technicians.
In 1495 Leonardo Da Vinci had published designs and ideas for a mechanical knight, and hundreds of years after that, the word “robot” was first came about in 1921. Karel Capek produced a play called Rossum’s Universal Robots, which is where people first saw and heard about robots. The word robot comes from a Church Slavonic word that refers to forced labor and drudgery. The play introduces a robots ability to perform tasks that regular humans just don’t feel like doing. At the end of the play robots rebelled against all humans taking over the universe leaving them to realize they needed human life overall to build other robots and continue evolving. It leaves off with these two robots who learn to obtain the ability to love and show true affection and create this new world again. Has this play predicted the future of what’s to happen, will robots take over human kind because of their intuitive skills?
Robots are machines that are capable of completing human like actions, that are programmable and function in a mechanical manner. George Devol built the first commercial, digital, and programmable robot in 1954. The robots name was Unimate and it got sold to General Motors for labor, such as lifting hot metal from machinery. Robots have evolved, keeping humans out of danger in unsafe environments. They have been tested through it’s intelligence and improvement when the machine is learning new material. Levels of quality that have to be met for this new technology is the ability of it working mechanically, electrically, information processing, machinery intelligence, business impact and social impact.
A variety of prior technologies has influenced robots ability to come about and they could not exist without the help of them. An inverted pendulum known as a segway is a machine with wheels where someone is in control of and the direction they want to go. It has been used to teach control theory which then influenced commercial possibilities for robots. The LiDAR and 3D scanning is wave based range sensor. Its a 3D map with light beams and lasers detecting the distance and duration of the light bouncing off the target. This is said to be a game changer for robots because it allows them to detect their surroundings and reliability of quick actions and calculations. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, which are now called drones is a robotic technology that fly containing aspects such as sensing, vision, navigation and control systems. These skills that the drones have are highly similar to the features in a robot. This has been a part of research in the robotic development. Drones are an invasion of privacy since their technically flying robots who have the ability to invade in personal matters, which could make humans feel violated. SLAM stands for Simultaneous Localization and Mapping, which is a research field. Recently SLAM has become part of the commercial world, and very involved on the research of robots. The field contains creations of maps calculating the location of where the robots are in their environment. For example, they have the ability to create a map of someones house and the robot is designed to be the vacuum cleaner detecting where they are and where to clean throughout the house hold. These technologies have affected and improved the advancement of robots in today’s society. Old technologies have been discovered to influence robotic developments in a successful manner.
What will be after robots? Could this be the end of creation, or end of the human era. Robots are gradually increasing taking over all human jobs. They are so intelligent where they can just hear or read something and create an entire professionally worded essay. Every job out there, they have the requirements met to do so. At Mcdonalds, they can slice fresh vegetables making burgers and other meals. We might not even know that we are getting handed food by a robot, considering they have made robots that look and shaped in a human form. They are taken and used for dangerous tasks that risk human lives; robots are used in the military, cleaning up radioactive waste, cleaning harmful chemicals with nuclear weapons and more. The fear of robots is the fear of losing jobs, creating it impossible to make money. As well as the fact of robots taking over humanity. I can’t imagine the world without human interaction and having that connection between two real living souls.
